What is the Digital Trends Panel?

The Digital Trends Panel market research programme is designed to help GfK's clients answer important questions such as:

  • What different technologies do people own and what do they use them for?
  • How does the arrival of new technology affect media use?
  • Do people notice advertising, and how relevant or irrelevant do they find it?
  • How popular are different media activities among different types of people?

What is the nurago Web Meter?

nurago Web Meter serves to research the usage of certain online offers. It records which websites you visit while you are using the Internet. nurago Web Meter registers the addresses (URLs) and contents of websites that you visit and your engagement with those sites. Therefore, nurago Web Meter is activated every time you open your browser.
nurago Web Meter works silently in the background and does not affect your surfing speed. It will not impact browser functionality in any way.

How do I join the Digital Trends Panel?

There are 3 easy steps to becoming a member of the Digital Trends Panel:

  • Stage 1 – Register
    You need to fill in a short survey about yourself to register for the Digital Trends Panel
  • Stage 2 – Install
    Once registered you will be taken to a webpage where you can download and then install the nurago Web Meter; full instructions are provided and it should take no more than a few minutes.
  • Stage 3 – Activate the nurago Web Meter in your browser(s)
    Upon the first start of your browser after installing the software, your browser may require activation of the nurago Web Meter. Please follow the installation-instructions (see below: "How to download, install, activate...")

What are the eligibility requirements for the Digital Trends Panel?

To join Digital Trends you must:

  • live in the UK,
  • be 18 years old or over,
  • be able to install software on your main computer which must have a Windows® operating system
  • be using either Google Chrome™, Mozilla Firefox® or Microsoft® Internet Explorer to browse the internet.

Which are the system requirements for using nurago Web Meter?

nurago Web Meter works on Microsoft® Windows® XP (32 Bit), Windows Vista® (32 Bit), 7 and 8 (both 32 and 64 Bit). nurago Web Meter comes with browser add-ons that install in Microsoft® Internet Explorer® (from version 6), Mozilla® Firefox® (from version 3) and Google Chrome™ (from version 7), each supported up to the current version. Other browsers and operating systems are not supported. Windows® RT (on ARM devices) is not supported. Neither are browsers supported that run under the "Modern UI" of Windows® 8 but only such running within the "Desktop App".

How will I be rewarded for my participation?

The rewards scheme has been changed on the 20th of February to become more valuable for you. Please note the slightly differing models:

Rewards-Scheme for registrations before 20 February 2013:

  • Initially, you will receive £ 3 as soon as you install our web-meter.
  • Then, to show our continued appreciation of your membership we will reward you again after 30 days with a £ 3 credit, provided you keep the add-on active!
  • Thereafter, you will be rewarded with £ 3 every 90 days of activity.
  • You will also enter our monthly prize draw for keeping the app active for at least one month. The prize draw official rules can be found here

As we have recently increased the incentive amount for the 30 day active bonus from £ 3 to £ 6, in order to compensate the difference in reward value for participants who entered the DTP and registered before 20 February, you will receive a £ 3 loyalty bonus for keeping the add-on active for 30 days from installation!

Rewards-Scheme for registrations from 20 February 2013:

  • First, you earn £ 3, 15 days after installing our web-meter. The reward is redeemable after 30 days in the panel.
  • Once you reach the 30 day threshold, the first reward becomes redeemable and you receive another £ 6 bonus. Therefore, in the first month as a Digital Trends panelist, you earn £ 9 - to be delivered to the PayPal account linked to the e-mail address uses for registering to our panel.
  • To show our continued appreciation of your membership, you will be rewarded with £ 3 every 90 days of activity thereafter.
  • You will also enter our monthly prize draw for keeping the app active for at least one month. The prize draw official rules can be found here.
  • Please note that, in order for each reward to be payable, the browser add-on should be active (have sent at least one page impression in the latest 3 days and the latest installation timestamp should be more recent than the latest uninstallation timestamp).

  • You earn £ 15 for keeping the nurago Web Meter installed and activated for 30 days
  • To show our continued appreciation of your membership, you will be rewarded with £ 5 every 90 days of activity thereafter.

How do you protect the privacy and personal data of users?

The privacy and the protection of the personal data of all users of computers on which the nurago Web Meter ist installed, are of the utmost importance to GfK!

In strict compliance with international data-protection legislation and the professional rules of conduct of the market research industry, such as the ESOMAR guidelines a copy which can be found at http://www.esomar.org, all data that is collected from panel-members will be exclusively used for market research purposes, and any third parties, including GfK's clients, will be provided with anonymous, aggregated data only.

In order to prevent any collection of data from computer-users who are not member of the Digital Trends Panel, a user-selection dialog will open each time a web-browser is started. From this dialog, panel-mebers must select their name while all other users who are not member of the Digital Trends Panel must select "Incognito / Private Browsing" to deactivate data-collection for the current browser-session. The user-selection dialog can also be opened from the system-tray in the lower right corner of the Windows® task-bar.

How to download, install, activate or uninstall nurago Web Meter?

Other browsers are not supported by the nurago Web Meter, please see above: "Which are the system requirements..." - Please note that using unsupported browsers only will lead to no data being collected through the nurago Web Meter and will therefore end your membership in the Digital Trends Panel.

How can I leave the Digital Trends Panel

You can leave the Digital Trends Panel at any point. Please be so kind as to inform SSI that you want to end your participation: digitaltrends@ssisurveys.com and don't forget to uninstall the nurago Web Meter in order to stop the tracking of your internet usage! Here is how to remove the nurago Web Meter:

  • close all running applications, especially web-browsers,
  • go to the Windows® Start-menu and click on "All Programs",
  • there, click on "nurago web meter" and then on "Remove nurago web meter".
  • Follow the instructions by the install-wizard.

    SSI will help you with all questions regarding your membership in the Digital Trends Panel, your rewards, surveys, etc. For any technical questions, SSI will, if necessary, involve GfK nurago and then provide support to you. SSI can also provide you with a new download-link for the nurago Web Meter if you need to re-install and haven't got the installer any more. With technical questions, please always include exact information on your Windows®- and browser versions in your email to the helpdesk (ideally like this: "Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit, Google Chrome 23.0.1271.64, Mozilla Firefox 16.0.2, Internet Explorer 9.0.8112.16421")

    Please note that contacting GfK nurago directly will rather complicate the handling of your request and typically lead to much longer response-times.
